Setting an intention is a simple yet powerful practice that can help you to feel more focused and productive throughout your day. When you set an intention, you are essentially telling your mind and body what you want to achieve or experience. This can help you to stay on track and avoid distractions, especially when you're feeling overwhelmed or stressed.
In my previous blog post, I explored the power of setting your intention and why you may want to be more deliberate in doing so in your daily practice. Today, I'd love to help you get down to business and begin setting intentions that SLAY. We're not gonna be mousy about it. I want your intentions to be bold and audacious. I want them to have weight and power. If you're ready to gain greater focus and get more productive, here are my Top 5 Tips For Setting Killer Intentions
Tip #1 - Be Specific
The more specific your intention is, the more likely you are to achieve it. For example, instead of saying "I want to have a good day," say "I will be productive and efficient in my work, and I will to take some time for myself to relax and recharge."
Tip #2 - Be Positive
Your intention should be worded in a positive way. Avoid using negative language or phrases. For example, instead of saying "I don't want to feel stressed," say "I will feel calm and centered." This is your moment to tell the universe what you expect of it, not what you no longer want. We're only speaking positivity over here.
"instead of saying 'I don't want to feel stressed,' say 'I will feel calm and centered.' "
Tip #3 - Be Realistic
Don't set intentions that are too difficult or unrealistic to achieve. If you do, you're more likely to feel disappointed and discouraged. Setting an intention to win the lottery, for example, is not the best use of your power and not the most realistic or achievable intention. However, setting an intention to crush that presentation you've worked so hard on is well within reach. We're not setting ourselves up for failure. We're ushering in success.
Tip #4 - Write It Down
If something is important to you, you document it. We do this because we don't want to forget it and want to see it come to pass. Writing down your intentions will help to solidify it in your mind. It also helps to remind you of your goals throughout the day. You can do this the old-fashion way by literally writing it on a piece of paper. Or you can whip out your notes app, or voice record it, hands-free. Just be sure to have it documented somewhere so that you can come back to it throughout the day.
Tip #5 - Visualize It
Take a few moments each morning to visualize yourself achieving your intentions for the day. This will help to program your subconscious mind and increase your chances of success. One way that I like to do this is through guided meditation. And wouldn't you know it, I've created a meditation that will help you solidify your intention and literally have you DANCING OUT OF BED. Can you think of a better way to start your day? I sure can't.
Let's Set An Intention Together
If setting an intention is new to you, I understand that it can feel a little daunting. But remember, we came to SLAY! I want to show you how easy it is to write an intention, just by using the steps I outlined above.
Here is an example of an intention I've set for a more productive and efficient day:
"I intend to be productive and efficient in my work today. I will focus on my top priorities and avoid distractions. I will take breaks when I need them, but I will stay on task and complete my work on time. I will also take some time for myself to relax and recharge so that I can stay energized and focused throughout the day."
That's it! It's Simple, Positive, Realistic and exactly what I need to have the most productive day ever. I would love to hear your intentions for today. What are you hoping for? What kind of day do you plan to have? We're building a community of people who believe in the power of setting bold intentions and look forward to supporting the manifestation of yours.
